What Makes a Good Teacher
I filmed this interview at Molly’s house in May of 2013. I remember telling her over tea and through petting her dogs that we were just going to have a conversation about why she enjoys teaching. She was a little nervous as she brushed her hair out of her face and reminisced about me sitting in her classroom just a few short years before. Naturally, Molly quickly forgot about the camera and discussed her love of teaching in the most sincere of ways. Murder Mouth: Life, Death and Dinner
This past weekend I saw Murder Mouth at the Adventure Film Festival here in Boulder. I have to say it was the adventure that resonated with me the most. Documentaries Trump the Dominant Narrative
The medium of documentary film is young but is rearing its head as the most powerful of all art forms. One could argue that music and books are more potent forces, but does music teach lessons as pointedly and do books reveal life as visually and aurally as a documentary? Not in my mind. I consider documentary films to be modern history books. I believe they will actually surpass history books in coming generations as the best tool for learning from the successes and follies of our ancestors. Unlike reading a book, documentaries allow viewers to see and hear life (albeit on a screen), thus creating a visceral experience that resonates more deeply.
